Françoise Gilot. Art Edition No. 61–120 ‘Indian Soul’ (German, French, English)

Limited to 60 copies (No. 61–120), this Art Edition features three facsimile volumes of Françoise Gilot’s travel sketchbooks from 1974 to 1981, combining the distinct atmospheres of Venice, India, and Senegal with her signature abstract figuration. The collection is complemented by Indian Soul (2017), a hand-printed, six-color lithograph signed by the artist, reflecting on the visual themes of her journey through India.

Created exclusively for TASCHEN, the print depicts three women united through the ornamental folds of their saris. Recalling her travels, Gilot remembered women carrying stones in copper dishes on their heads while maintaining roads, remaining struck by how they preserved the grace of their intricate saris even during heavy labor.
